UATX Office of Admissions SMS Text Messaging Privacy Notice
The University of Austin (UATX) utilizes SMS text messaging to deliver admissions- and enrollment-related information, as well as to engage with prospective and admitted students.
Opt-In
By engaging in any of the following actions, an individual expressly consents to receive text messages, including those sent using automated technology, from UATX and its authorized service providers:
- Initiating text communication with the phone number utilized for admissions or enrollment purposes; or
- Providing your mobile phone number to UATX through an application for admission or a related form.
This consent applies to all communications related to:
- Admissions information and guidance;
- Enrollment processes and requirements;
- Administrative notifications and updates; and
- Other admissions- and enrollment-related communications.
Consent to receive SMS communications is not a condition for admission, enrollment, or participation in programs and activities at UATX.
What We Collect:
If you choose to interact via text, UATX may collect your:
- Name
- Email address
- Standardized test score(s)
- Mailing address (if relevant to your inquiry)
- Information necessary for the admissions and enrollment process
- Other details you choose to share
How We Use It:
We use this information solely to:

- Provide admissions and enrollment guidance
- Provide deadline reminders, application updates, and other important information about the admissions process

Who We Share it With:
UATX may share information received via text with university partners and external service providers supporting business activities, such as SimpleTexting, which provides UATX's text messaging platform. UATX also shares data when required by law, court order, search warrant, or subpoena, as well as when it is necessary to protect the safety, property, or rights of others.
Messaging/Data Rates and Opt-Out:
Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP, QUIT, CANCEL, OPT-OUT, or UNSUBSCRIBE to any text message sent from UATX or emailing admissions@uaustin.org.
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act:
Information collected through SMS communications may become subject to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) upon admission or enrollment. UATX handled all enrolled students’ data in compliance with FERPA and applicable state laws.
Children Under the Age of 13:
UATX does not knowingly collect personal data from individuals under the age of 13. If you are under 13, do not provide any information about yourself to UATX via text message. If you are under 13 and are interested in attending UATX, please have your parent or guardian contact us at admissions@uaustin.org on your behalf.
